Synopsis
Henan
province, With a population of one hundred million, in the middle of China,
there are lots of country young men leaving hometown to make a living. So, the
job of sailor means high salary for them to get rich and dream of traveling
round the world. In the first school of sailor in inland, a group of country
young men who never see the sea will receive the training of sailor, simulative
learn living skill on overseas ship in the land, and the way of learning
swimming in washbowl is great challenge for them. They are eager to change
their destinies through the job of sailor, when the harvest season in wheat
filed is coming, could they see the sea?
The
film will record their dream practice and experience, and show current young
country men in the middle of China feel confusion and hope for the future ,
their view of life and value.
“Have you seen the sea?”
“No”, some young men give the same answer before the shot.
These young men coming from the country in
Henan province, are receiving sailor training in a sailor school in the suburbs
of Xinxiang City. If all goes well, they will work in the overseas ship as a
sailor after graduating. The picture poster in the corridor of school marks the
monthly salary of $1000 to $7000, Thousands of dollars in monthly income
equivalent to two years of they home. it means astronomical figures for the
young men from the impoverished country
and filled with Temptation. But before go
to the ship, get high salary and even travel round the world, these young man
must receive a series of study and challenge.
Xiao qin and Xiao wang both graduate from
high school, they are facing to their first choices in the life, continue to
study or find a job? They don’t want to repeat their father’s Farmer livings,
do farm job, and eager to find a beautiful future belong to themselves. In
their eyes, sailors could get more higher pay than the same aged , help family
get rich and travel round the world. Although family don’t know the job, but
they lend the money to them for being a sailor.
Xiao Qin likes movies of Hollywood on the
Internet, especially with sea and ship. Except listening teacher talk
interesting and news in the sea, he knows the world outside the sea from
movies. He has a dream that he could go to Maldives and Paris France on his first
sailing.
Xiao Wang’s family is not rich in the
country, he just hopes to be a sailor very soon with high salary to change the
living condition of family.
Survival at Sea, Maritime English, Ship
handing, Radar observation, Nautical meteorology and other dozens of courses
make Xiao Qin and Xiao Wang feel very fresh, who never see the sea even a ship.
Courses for these strange ships never touched them, full of great challenge .
Xiao Wang is the most headaches is the English , Daily English conversation never
say , Maritime English for him more as mumbo-jumbo generally difficult . But
this is them to become a sailor must grasp a foreign language . He worried
whether through the course examination .after one year, They will get a series
of certificate through the exams to get the qualification of being a sailor.
Because of International financial tsunami, International shipping market is
downturn, the employment condition is not optimistic for Chinese sailor.
Sailors like Xiao Qin and Xiao Wang from the middle provinces of China, should
pay more efforts to get in ocean shipping Road.
There
is a huge wheat filed around the school, when the next harvest time is coming
they will also finish their study. But could they get in the overseas ship
thousand miles away successfully? What is the starting point the sea they never
see will give them? This film will pursuit their study and work experience and
face the dream and realistic sailing together.
